Is there such a thing? Yes there definitely is!
Many of us, yes you and me included, were taught to wash our face as how we would wash our hands or plates even! What I didn’t know was that the way I was cleansing my face had created premature wrinkles around my mouth area and my eye area. So here are some tips for you on how to cleanse your face effectively and yet preserve your youthful appearance.
Tip #1 – Use normal tap water temperature to wash your face
Our facial skin is thinner than the skin on our body and it can be more sensitive too. The temperature of the water used can and will affect the skin’s longevity in maintaining its health and well-being.
Some would cleanser their face while in the hot shower because it is more convenient, well, the water is running so why not, just lather away and wash the suds away! Believe it or not, I used to do that and before long, my facial skin became oilier with more red patches and had became dull.
When you use hot water to cleanse your face, it can weaken the skin barrier after a period of time. This will make the skin vulnerable and breaks easily. When this happens, the skin can be exposed to inflammation caused by settling of bacteria from the environment.
Tip #2 – Use clean cloth or towel to dry your face by dabbing gently
Only the royalty dabs their face after cleansing – not really! Everyone should be dabbing their face with clean cloth or towel after cleansing. This is to avoid the texture of the towel from rubbing against the skin which can be rough. This action, can and will cause the “pulling” and tugging of the skin that will result in skin sagging prematurely.
The roughness of the towel or cloth may cause micro tears as well to the skin. It may not be visible to the naked eyes. These micro tears are then exposed to the environment that free radicals are roaming around. Again, possible exposure to inflammation.
Tip #3 – Use a mild cleanser to cleanse your face
There are many types of facial cleansers available in the market today. Choose a cleanser carefully that is suitable for your facial skin. A mild cleanser is sufficient to cleanse. I suggest to shy away from soap base cleansers as they can be harsh to the skin. It dries out the skin and cause premature skin ageing.

I will be talking about different types of cleansers in the coming blogposts 🙂
Tip #4 – Use the middle and ring finger when cleansing your face
I know it sounds strange but just give it a thought. These fingers are good to use to glide over the facial skin while cleansing. It does not put pressure on the skin which can cause skin tugging and pulling.
Start from the chin and slowly massage gently in upwards motion to the temples. Then go the centre of the forehead and massage gently outwards. You can repeat this 3-5 times or until you are comfortable with the session. Thereafter, you can rinse off with normal tap water temperature.
We may have the habit of using our pointer finger to cleanse our face. I was guilty of that! Our pointer finger is the strongest amongst the rest and it can put quite a pressure on the skin that may cause premature ageing and wrinkles. We sure don’t want that!
I hope these tips help. I want you to join me in preserving our skin’s well-being naturally.
Remember, you are beautiful!
